I couldn’t agree more. It was the same lack luster BS during the election. I’ve been a democrat my entire life but now I’m questioning that. They are all just posturing and trying to get us to donate. I don’t know about anyone else, but my dollars are going to the ACLU and grassroots groups that are fighting in the streets!

I agree. I was so angry that she basically normalized this administration by saying something to the affect, we've been through tough times before!!! Full stop!!! This is a coup and she in no significant way alarmed people to the real threat we are experiencing. Your analysis is spot on. Democratic leaders are being far to passive in their responses to this crisis. We are on the precipice of Defcon 1.

Perhaps Jeffries needs to be replaced...and it would have been much more affective if AOC had composed and delivered the rebuttal. But, it is what it is, I suppose...

You are my kids generation. My outlook is different. I was so shocked by Slotkin's tone deaf speech, I read the transcript.

In the 80s, it was a big fucking deal to be a member of Ronnie Raygun's party. He brought us the two income household, double digit inflation and the Iran Contra mess. He started this mess we are in now. She said he had moral clarity. No, he just didn't get caught.

I didn't hear anything in that speech that was not embarrassing. It was 6th grade social studies at best. My 11 year old granddaughter would have done better.

I was so disappointed in her response last night. We are all up in arms about the treatment first of Zelenskyy in the Oval Office and then the pauses in aid and internet access etc. she never mentioned that he, trump, has put the country in danger by aligning our country with Russia! Talking about working in the car company and being able to buy that car! C’mon that’s not even relevant right now! I voted for her in every election that she has been in and I live in a bright red district. She is not the fighter that we need in the senate now.

I didn’t listen to the FF-PINO Rally last night so didn’t listen to Sen Slotkin either. But your article tells me everything I need to know about that travesty on the House floor. Would ask that you try to get higher status on the list of Substacks recommended by The Contrarian (in addition to Joyce Vance, Jonathan Alter, Harry Litman et al) so more folks like me can listen/read and subscribe. IMHO I think you have a terrific point of view and are willing to share it!

Unfortunately, getting rid of Trump requires a mind set change of the working class American public. And I can't see that happening anytime soon. If anything, as their job insecurity grows, their bigotry and racism will deepen. America is basically F**ked for at least the next four years and possibly longer, if Trump changes the American constitution.

Agree now I am going to be calling my Democratic Senators and Representatives and relaying these talking points. Everyone should do the same. I will include a call to Pelosie, AOC, Jeffries etc…

The Dems are weak and ineffective. My conclusion is they’re in on it. Maybe not all but the Schumers and Jeffries

Interesting. I may gave missed it, but what are your action items? Mine?

Sit ins

Physically show up and block Musk access ( maybe too late)

Get up from committee meetings and walk out when lies start ( Should have done that during Trump speech, maybe 5 at a time)

Protest and get arrested

Senate hold up military appointees and anything else that takes 60 votes or unanimous consent.

Congressman start motions to amend everything coming onto the floor vote.

Finally, DO NOT VOTE for a budget that includes tax cuts for the wealthy and guts social security, Medicare,Medicaid and our infrastructure.

I agree with your commentary. This said I’m disappointed with the Democrats who do not have a clear plan to distinguish themselves from Trump and namely Musk who are carrying out chaotic actions to help themselves to taxpayers’ money and gut our government without any thought to the consequences of those actions. This made me feel more depressed about the state of our union. Dems need a different leadership who will not behave defeated, acquiescing to the GOP and DOGE (totally illegal as no one elected Elon Musk and their department must be approved and funded through Congress which has not done so). So as I see it, our reps must hear from we the people to rise up against these illegal actions. I’m all for a government review to determine intelligently where cuts can be made but this chainsaw approach must be stopped! PERIOD.
